International Exchange
Graphic design in Japan has drawn global attention. Still, we intend to continue absorbing foreign designs and contribute to nations whose design remains undeveloped. Through "collaboration," exemplified by mutual exchanges of art and people, JAGDA hopes that more active roles toward the development of world design and mutual friendship can be realized.
ICOGRADA
JAGDA is an active member of ICOGRADA, the International Council of Graphic Design Associations, currently comprising 63 groups from 37 countries. JAGDA sends members to General Assemblies, organizes forums for its members, and holds Japan Poster Exhibitions. In 1989 the "ICOGRADA-JAGDA PAN-PACIFIC DESIGN CONGRESS '89" was held in Tokyo, and in 2003 the "International Graphic Design Conference (20th ICOGRADA General Assembly/Congress)" is scheduled for Nagoya.
Poster Exchange
JAGDA cooperates in organizing exhibitions in various places of the world, contributing posters designed by its members. It also assists with poster exhibitions held by international organizations such as UNESCO and ICOGRADA. The "Contemporary Japanese Poster Exhibition (1984, 1990, 1992)" and "Discover Japan through Contemporary Posters (2000)" organized by the Japan Foundation were well received throughout the world.
Personal Exchange
JAGDA sends its members both Japanese and foreign to lecture at international symposia and seminars. Conversely, it invites designers working abroad to its "JAGDA International Design Seminar (1994, 1997)." Exchange was promoted between KSVD (Korea Society of Visual Design) from 1984 to 1990.
Recommendation to International internship
JAGDA serves as a gateway to the design, media and arts section of the "Japanese Government Overseas Study Program for Artists," organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and recommends candidates from among its members and the general public. It also accepts applications for the "Japanese Government Fellowship Program for Artists from Abroad."
Liaison for International Design Competitions
JAGDA regularly notifies its members of all types of design competitions held at around the world, among the venues to date being Warsaw, Brno (Czech Republic), Mexico and Chaumont (France).
